To safeguard consumers over the upcoming festive season, the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has announced a series of special raids that starting on December 15.

In order to stop the spread of expired products, a thorough inspection program will be implemented in place nationwide with a focus on major wholesale outlets, warehouses, and retail shops, according to CAA Director Asela Bandara.

To ensure adherence to consumer protection standards, the raids will also target outlets that sell clothing, electronics, and other goods.

In order to prevent unfair trade practices and maintain product quality, he said, mobile vendors and stores hosting large seasonal sales would be closely monitored.

Consumers are encouraged to report complaints by calling the CAA’s dedicated hotline at 1977 if they come across issues like expired goods, misleading promotions, or substandard products.
