According to Vijitha Herath, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, an announcement has been decided to hold the Local Government Elections in the beginning of the next year.

“The Supreme Court ruled that the local government elections should be held as soon as possible. However, the funds necessary to hold these elections this year were not allotted.
As a result, elections for local government will be held early in next year. He stated, “We are prepared to hold the elections for the Urban Councils and Pradeshiya Sabhas.
