Sri Lankans were given the chance to vote at the parliamentary elections after President Anura Kumara Dissanayake won the Presidential elections held on the 21t of September 2024 and called for a snap election after dissolving parliament.

This brings us back to the J R Jayewardene era, after winning a landslide victory in the 1977 general elections where he gained 53% of the votes. As Prime Minister J. R. Jayewardene introduced the Executive Presidency through the 1978 constitutional reforms. Consequently, Prime Minister J.R.Jayawardene was inaugurated as the 1st Executive President of Sri Lanka on 4 February 1978.

After that period Sri Lanka has never seen a scenario similar to that. But today President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and his National Peoples Party has achieved what people thought was impossible.

His party secured 62 % of the votes and achieved a landslide victory.

A total of 17,140,354 Sri Lankans were eligible to vote in this year’s Parliamentary Election, with the Gampaha District registering the highest number of voters with 1,881,129.Colombo District is second with 1,765,351 registered voters, and Kurunegala District has 1,417,226 voters. The Northern Province has a combined total of 899,268 registered voters

Given below are the results and seats obtained by the respective political parties and those candidates seeking a seat in the new parliament through the national list which is scheduled to convene on the 21st of November 2024.
