A significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s tourism revival was reached when the country was named the “Most Desirable Island in the World” at the prestigious Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards 2024, which were held in London.

Over 200,000 enthusiastic travellers choose Sri Lanka, reflecting the island’s powerful allure and variety of attractions.
Sri Lanka had one of the most exciting comebacks at the Awards, moving up from eighth place last year to win gold.
Wanderlust, which is known as the “Pearl of the Indian Ocean,” claimed in an announcement of the results that “the nation’s history comes to life through spectacular monuments such as Sigiriya Rock, the cave temples of Dambulla, and the ancient ruins of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa.”
