Compared to more than 1.4 million tourists it welcomed in 2023, Sri Lanka is expected to surpass the ambitious goal of 2.3 million tourists this year.
By October 2024, Sri Lanka had already received 1,620,715 arrivals, bringing the country closer to its goal of attracting 2.3 million tourists in 2024 and indicating signs of a thriving tourism industry.
As to the most recent data issued by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, there were 135,907 tourist arrivals in October.

October saw a higher number of tourists than September, which recorded 122,140 arrivals, indicating an uptick in tourism.
Compared to the same period last year, October 2024 saw over 20,000 arrivals.
Meanwhile, with 31,076 arrivals, the fourth week of October had the highest number of tourist arrivals.
With 322,973 Indian tourists visiting the country overall, India has produced the most visits thus far this year. With 146,670 tourists overall, the United Kingdom had the second-highest number of arrivals.
Additionally, a sizable number of tourists have come from China, France, Germany, and Russia.
