The strike by railway station masters, which began at midnight yesterday (October 30), has been temporarily called off.

According to the Sri Lanka Railways Station Masters’ Union, the decision was taken because today, October 31, is Deepavali.

In an attempt to take trade union action, railway station masters withdrew from all ticketing duties as of 4.30 p.m. yesterday (30).

However, the union has declared that train services would not be disrupted.

Railway station masters strike temporarily called off

The Railway Station Masters’ Union issued a warning on Tuesday, the 29th, that if their demands are not met during the discussion with the subject minister, they will launch a strike at midnight yesterday, the 30th.

Due to issues over the post of Railway Station Masters, the union chose to start a trade action immediately.

Sumedha Somaratne, the association’s president, stated that despite repeated demands, the authorities had not responded favourably to the Railway Station Masters’ concerns, including promotions, therefore they had chosen to resort to union action.
