A special statement from the Government Information Department makes it clear that the privileges accorded to former presidents have not been withdrawn.
“Government says that former Presidents’ privileges have not been withdrawn.”
The statement, which was released in reaction to media suggesting that former Presidents’ vehicles had been reclaimed, said that former heads of state still had their rights and that only the additional vehicles had been returned up to this point.
In light of this, the Director General of Government Information’s statement indicates that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has returned eight of the sixteen vehicles that were under his ownership, while former President Ranil Wickremesinghe is in possession of eleven vehicles.
