The University Grants commission (UGC) Chairman and its members have stepped down from their respective positions within the commission. They are said to have tendered their resignation letters to the President on Monday.(14)

The UGC members were reportedly asked to resign from their positions by the Presidential Secretariat, which made the resignations.

Chairman and UGC members step down

As a result, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has received written notice from the UGC’s Chairman, Senior Prof. Sampath Amaratunga, Vice Chairman, Senior Prof. Chandana P. Udawatte, and Commissioners that they will be leaving their positions.

The UGC members who were appointed in 2020 had an official term that was set to end in March 2025.
