In a televised interview, M.S.M. Aslam, a professor of tourism management at Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka (SUSL), said Sri Lanka can readily attract a sizable number of the 15% of global tourists who are differently abled through a targeted campaign and developing the right infrastructure.

Prof. Aslam shows the wealth in catering to untapped tourism areas

Sri Lanka has been promoting its tourism since the 1970s, according to Prof. Aslam. However there hasn’t been any scientific research to determine our capacities or the most profitable market niches to pursue, nor has there been much diversification.

“We may claim that tourism is growing based on global trends, but how do we draw tourists who are most appropriate for our country characteristics? For example, there are numerous locations where we might advertise adventure travel. However, we haven’t given this any thought,” he said.
