The US dollar fell below Rs 300 yesterday for the first time since June 8, 2023.

According to data from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), yesterday’s dollar selling rate was Rs 299.35, while the buying rate was Rs 290.30.

Dollar drops to below Rs 300 for the first time since June 2023.

The rise of the rupee was previously attributed by the CBSL to greater foreign currency inflows than outflows.

D.S.T. Wanaguru, the department head of CBSL International Operations, told journalists in August that the rupee appreciated by 8.1 percent vs the US dollar in the first eight months of 2024. This January, the dollar was trading around Rs 320.
