“Newly licensed foreign employment agents empowered with knowledge”
The first awareness program of the year 2026 for newly licensed foreign employment agencies of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) was held today (20) at the Bureau’s head office located in Battaramulla.
Fulfilling its role as the sole regulatory body for the foreign employment sector in Sri Lanka and working towards the goal of establishing a sound and ethical foreign employment industry, the Bureau aims to equip the licensed foreign employment agency sector with knowledge through this program. The objective of this program is to create opportunities for the welfare of Sri Lankan migrant workers as well as the well-being and sustainability of licensed foreign employment agencies.
During the program, the necessary knowledge required by licensed foreign employment agencies regarding the foreign employment sector was provided. This included topics such as foreign employment registration, obtaining job approvals, training required for foreign employment, handling complaints, laws relating to the foreign employment sector, the prevention of human trafficking, financial systems, the Bureau’s website and information technology systems, foreign embassy processes, and circulars relevant to licensees connected to the Bureau’s Licensing Division.
Organized by the Bureau’s Licensing Division, this program was attended by 100 individuals, including licensees and staff members representing 50 foreign employment agencies that have newly acquired or renewed their foreign employment licenses. Members of the upper management and Bureau officials representing various divisions of the SLBFE participated as resource persons.
