The “Yapahuwa Cultural Tourism Heritage Management Project,” aimed at conserving and developing the historic Yapahuwa archaeological site while promoting its tourism facilities, was officially launched recently (16) under the direction of the Central Cultural Fund.

Yapahuwa Cultural Tourism Heritage Management Project” Launched

Implemented under the blessings and guidance of the Maha Sangha, led by the Chief Incumbent of the Yapahuwa Rajamaha Viharaya, Venerable Nugaliyadde Samithananda Thero, the financial provisions and full contribution for this project are provided by the Central Cultural Fund.

This special inaugural event was held under the patronage of the Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi, with the special participation of the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Namal Karunaratne, and the Governor of the North Western Province, Tissa Warnasuriya.

The primary goal of this project is to develop infrastructure to attract both local and foreign tourists while safeguarding the historical and cultural value of the Yapahuwa Kingdom for future generations.

A group of state officials, including the Director General of Archaeology, Dr. Senarath Wickramasinghe, the Director General of the Central Cultural Fund, Dr. Nilan Cooray, Professor Samitha Manawadu, the Acting Director (Development) of the Central Cultural Fund, Dr. Sumedha Mathota, and the Additional Director General, Priyadarshana Udukumura, along with local residents, also participated in the event.
