“Buddha sasana Council meets”
The “Buddhasasana Council,” established with representation from all Nikayas for the protection and upliftment of the Sambuddha Sasana in Sri Lanka, met yesterday (12) at the Ministry of Buddhasasana.
During this meeting, held with the full involvement of the Venerable Maha Sangha, attention was focused on several matters of significant ecclesiastical and national importance. Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi, the Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, reviewed past activities and discussed future initiatives.
The key areas addressed included formulating preliminary plans to celebrate the upcoming National Vesak Festival on a grand scale and reviewing the progress of the “Adhishtanaye Sanhinda” national program aimed at renovating temples affected by disasters. Proposals were also presented to introduce standardized Atapirikara manufactured according to proper specifications for the convenience of devotees. Additionally, specialized committees were tasked with developing action plans regarding monastic discipline, Bhikkhu education, national reconciliation, and combating social evils such as drug abuse.
Extensive counsel was offered regarding the Council’s responsibility and future measures in the face of various challenges confronting the Sasana. Ultimately, an agreement was reached to further strengthen state intervention to ensure the spiritual and ecclesiastical renaissance of the country.
