Stay Vigilant – Department of Meteorology

The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning regarding a low-pressure area currently developing near Sri Lanka.

According to the statement, the lower atmospheric disturbance in the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a low-pressure area and is located near 10.1N, 82.5E. Due to the influence of this system, the prevailing rainy weather across the island is expected to continue over the next few days. Additionally, strong winds and rough seas are anticipated in the deep and shallow sea areas around the island, as well as in the deep sea areas of the Bay of Bengal.

Based on data issued today (11th), the Department further states that there is no probability of this system developing into a depression within the next 48 hours. However, the Department of Meteorology advises the public, including the fishing and naval communities, to remain vigilant regarding future forecasts and announcements.
