Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody and Ministry Secretary Professor Udayanga Hemapala resigned from their posts this afternoon (17).

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake appointed a Special Presidential Commission of Inquiry today to investigate whether irregularities and illegal activities occurred during coal importation and related electricity generation. Following this, the Energy Minister and the Ministry Secretary submitted their resignation letters to the President, stating that they are stepping down to support the impartial and independent process of the commission.
