“Massive fraud carried out in the name of the Postal Department uncovered”
The Department of Posts has issued a special public notice regarding an ongoing fraud involving a fake website that mimics the department’s official site.
According to the announcement, a phishing scam is in operation where the department’s name and official branding are being misused. Fraudulent SMS messages are sent to customers claiming that a payment is required to receive a parcel. These messages direct targets to use online payment methods via debit or credit cards to settle the fees.
The Department of Posts highlights that when customers enter their bank card details through these fraudulent payment gateways, their funds are being stolen.
The department noted that they have received numerous complaints from victims and individuals who received these messages. Furthermore, steps have already been taken to inform the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and other relevant authorities about this phishing scam.
Consequently, the Department of Posts makes a special request to the public to remain vigilant regarding these fraudulent SMS links, fake websites, and online payment requests. The public is strongly advised not to click on unknown links and never to provide bank card details or OTP (One-Time Password) numbers to third parties or unverified websites.
