Special Notice from the Department of Registration of Persons

The Department of Registration of Persons has issued an announcement stating that efforts to restore the department’s computer system are currently underway.

According to the notification, arrangements have been made to issue National Identity Cards (NICs) via the One-Day Service tomorrow (March 30), exclusively for clients who were unable to obtain their NICs on March 23, 24, and 26 at the Battaramulla “Suhurupaya” Head Office and provincial offices. These individuals can obtain their identity cards by visiting the relevant offices with all necessary documents.

The Department further informs that the regular One-Day Service at the Battaramulla Head Office and all provincial offices will resume as usual from Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

Additionally, the department requests state and non-state organizations to seek alternative methods for services such as NIC information verification and English translations, as these services are currently being provided on a limited basis.

Accordingly:Normal Service / Front Office operations at the Head Office and provincial branches will officially resume on Monday, April 06, 2026.Once the system is fully restored, all departmental services are scheduled to function without interruption.
