Ramadan festival today

The Ramadan festival, observed with great devotion by Islamic devotees, falls today.

The Colombo Grand Mosque announced that the festival is being celebrated today following the completion of the 30-day holy month of fasting, as the new moon was not sighted previously.

According to the teachings of the Holy Quran, the sacred scripture of Islam, the day marking the end of the fasting period is recognized as the day of Ramadan (Eid al-Fitr). It is noted that the commencement and conclusion of the festival are determined based on the Islamic lunar calendar and the sighting of the moon.

By observing the fast for an entire month, devotees seek to understand the hunger experienced by the poor. During this time, it is customary to engage in acts of charity, such as donating food or providing financial assistance to those in need.
