The Norwegian Consul, Sturle Harald Pedersen, met with the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land, and Irrigation, K.D. Lalkantha, at the Ministry of Agriculture on the 18th for a special discussion.
The meeting focused significantly on the agricultural sector, specifically highlighting the importance of utilizing renewable energy for farming. The Norwegian Consul presented several methods for energy production, emphasizing that gas could be produced using the country’s agricultural waste. Additionally, he noted that Norway could assist Sri Lanka in generating energy through wind, solar, and tidal power from the ocean. A project report prepared by them regarding these initiatives was also handed over to the Minister.
“Discussion between Norwegian Consul and Minister of Agriculture”
The Consul stated that Norway is interested in identifying areas with high agricultural waste to implement gas production processes. Based on his observations, he pointed out that Sri Lanka produces excess solar energy during the day. He suggested that this surplus energy could be used to produce hydrogen through the electrolysis of water, which can then be utilized as a fuel. This produced hydrogen could serve as a fuel source across all sectors, including agriculture.
