This national programme is being implemented by the National Productivity Secretariat, which functions under the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, in collaboration with all District Secretariats and Divisional Secretariats across the country. The initiative will be carried out under a three-year plan under the theme A Prosperous Village that Uplifts the Nation.”

322 Community Productivity Model Villages Launched under ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ and the National Productivity Secretariat

The Community Productivity Model Villages project goes beyond the physical development of villages. It is designed to empower communities through six key dimensions under the concept of community productivity. Accordingly, special attention will be given to educational development, economic development, health and sanitation, social well-being, as well as cultural, spiritual, and environmental advancement.

A key expectation of the Government is to bring to the grassroots level the national commitment to enhancing ethical values and standards, which form the foundation of the Clean Sri Lanka national programme, while also promoting and maintaining a clean and sustainable environment through these model villages. Under a clear policy framework and with the engagement of the entire state mechanism, the ultimate objective of this national initiative is to transform every village in the country into a productive and exemplary community unit through practical actions.

The event was also attended by public representatives of the area, including the Chairman of the Kalutara Regional Coordination Committee, Additional Secretary to the President (Clean Sri Lanka), S.P.C. Sugeeshwara, Director General of the National Productivity Secretariat, Suranga Gunaratne, Kalutara District Secretary H.M.S.P.
