Professor Tissa Vitharana passes away

Professor Tissa Vitharana, a veteran Sri Lankan politician, passed away this morning (13) at the age of 91. He passed away at his residence in Kotte after having been in ill health for some time.

During his distinguished career, Professor Vitharana served as a Member of Parliament, a Cabinet Minister, and a Governor. Having commenced his political journey in 1974 with the Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP), he later held various positions within the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA), and the Communist Party of Sri Lanka.
