Kuwait-Sri Lanka Ties to Grow Through Innovative Sectors

Health and Media Minister remarks at Kuwait’s 65th National Day celebrations

A ceremony to commemorate the 65th National Day and the 35th Liberation Day of the State of Kuwait was held on the 9th at the Cinnamon Life Hotel in Colombo. The Minister of Health and Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, participated in the event as a chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Jayatissa extended his warmest congratulations to the people of Kuwait on behalf of all Sri Lankans. He highlighted that diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Kuwait were established on February 19, 1971, and emphasized that for 55 years, the bond between the two nations has remained steadfast, built on a foundation of trust, respect, and cooperation.

The Minister further stated that this long-standing friendship reflects the strength of bilateral ties and expressed his optimism that the relationship would grow even stronger in the years to come.

The Minister noted that approximately 167,000 Sri Lankans currently live and work in Kuwait. He took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the Government of Kuwait for providing employment opportunities and for ensuring the welfare and protection of Sri Lankan employees.

Highlighting the tourism sector, the Minister mentioned that Kuwait contributed significantly to Sri Lanka’s tourism industry in 2025. He extended an invitation to Kuwaiti citizens to continue visiting Sri Lanka to experience the country’s rich culture, heritage, and hospitality.

Furthermore, Minister Jayatissa expressed interest in expanding bilateral cooperation into new frontiers, including:Renewable energy,Investment opportunities within the Colombo Port City,Labor exchange in specialized sectors such as Healthcare, Information Technology (IT), and Engineering.

The event also featured an exchange of commemorative mementos between the two nations. The ceremony was attended by the Charge d’Affaires of the State of Kuwait in Sri Lanka, Abdullah Ahmad A.M.A. Almuhana, along with several other dignitaries.
