Don’t be fooled by false propaganda about jobs in Israel being spread on social media- Sri Lankan Ambassador to Israel

Nimal Bandara, the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Israel, issued a special statement urging people not to be deceived by false propaganda about jobs in Israel being spread through social media

Over 16,000 Sri Lankans have come to Israel for work in Israel in the past one and a half years, recruited by the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau for a number of groups under the bilateral agreement between the Sri Lankan government and the Israeli government.

90% of them came through the government and the remaining 10% came through private employment agencies. Any group of these groups must be registered with the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau.

Among the selected groups, groups were selected for jobs to be received in Sri Lanka under the category of infrastructure, and as of September 1, 2025, 188 had arrived from Sri Lanka. It is a category under the construction sector (Protocol D) of the relevant agreement, which is entirely under the government.

In addition to this, there is another selected group in Sri Lanka and they will be recruited in the order of registration according to the job vacancies that will be available in the future. It is a function entirely within the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment and the Embassy has no duty in this regard.

Neither the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment nor the Embassy can provide nor transfer jobs received from one government to another to the private sector.

It is requested that relevant inquiries regarding infrastructure facilities be made through the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment and please note that accounts that post these false news and responses will be blocked when it is possible to come only by paying the government fees with good transparency under the new government.

Since various private institutions are making a large amount of money, I would like to inform everyone to try to come only through the government.

I request you to please come to private institutions after paying the fees and then blame the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment or the embassy, as you cannot stay on the government list for a long time due to your own urgency.
