A warning announcement regarding strong winds, heavy rain, and rough seas for the next 24 hours has been issued by the Department of Meteorology.

According to this announcement, multi-day fishing vessels sailing in the Bay of Bengal sea areas have been advised to be cautious.

The Department of Meteorology’s notice also informs the fishing and naval communities operating in the shallow sea areas extending from Kankasanthurai, through Trincomalee, to Batticaloa, to remain vigilant.

A low-pressure area developed in the southeastern Bay of Bengal sea area by 5:30 AM today (24th). It is expected that this system will further intensify over the next 24 hours and move in a west-north-westerly direction.

Those currently engaged in fishing in these areas have been instructed to evacuate from those sea regions before October 25th.
