  • A new examination centre for the ‘Ubiquitous-based Test’ (UBT)…”

A modern electronic examination centre equipped with facilities for conducting Korean Language Proficiency Tests (Korean Language Examination Center Ubiquitous-based Test – UBT) using smart devices such as tablets for employment in South Korea was opened yesterday (23rd). The opening ceremony was held at No. 553/1, New Kandy Road, Thalahena (near Sampath Bank), under the patronage of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment, Mr. Arun Hemachandra.

This new centre was established at the request of the Human Resources Development Service of Korea (HRD Korea), following their decision to implement a new method for the Korean language test using tablets starting from the year 2025. This allows for increased facilities and the examination of a larger number of job seekers at one time.

A change in the Korean Language proficiency test

The necessary tablet facilities for the examination have been provided by the Korean government. The new building can accommodate 100 job applicants in one session, allowing approximately 400 job applicants to take the exam daily.

The Korean employment program is implemented by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the Governments of Korea and Sri Lanka in 2004, to provide employment in South Korea under the E-9 visa category.

Appearing for the Korean Language Proficiency Test is mandatory to obtain employment opportunities in South Korea. The online language test using a computer medium was introduced in Sri Lanka in 2014, and the examination centre was previously maintained in a building in Pannipitiya town.
