The annual State Literary Lecture – 2025, which is held in parallel with the State Literary Awards Ceremony, took place yesterday (10) afternoon at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute auditorium.
This year’s lecture was delivered by Professor Liyanage Amarakeerthi of the Department of Sinhala at the University of Peradeniya.
The lecture, titled “The Paths We Took and Did Not Take: Main Stages and Potentials in the Intellectual History of Sinhala Language and Literary Studies,” was chaired by veteran writer Jayathilaka Kammellaweera.

The event was jointly organized by the State Literary Subcommittee, the Sri Lanka Arts Council, the Department of Cultural Affairs, and the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious, and Cultural Affairs. The occasion was attended by a large number of senior literary figures and readers, along with officials, including Prince Senadhira, Secretary of the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious, and Cultural Affairs; K.S. Dilhani of the Department of Cultural Affairs; and Anil Abeygunawardhana, Private Secretary to the Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious, and Cultural Affairs. Also in attendance were Kirthi Welisarage, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Arts Council and an award-winning writer, and Kamal Perera, Chairman of the State Literary Subcommittee and an award-winning writer, among other distinguished guests.
