Former President Mahinda leaves official residence

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is reported to have left his official residence in Wijerama this afternoon.

This follows the “Withdrawal of Entitlements of Presidents” Act, which requires former presidents to hand back their official residences to the government.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had been using the official residence in Wijerama until today, and with the passing of the Act yesterday, he too has lost that privilege.

Accordingly, it is stated that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has left the official residence in Wijerama and gone to his Carlton House residence in Hambantota this afternoon.
