“Bus plunges into a ravine in Ella”
A bus plunged into a ravine on the Ella – Wellawaya road last night (04), according to reports.
A group of employees from the Tangalle Municipal Council who were on an excursion to Ella from Tangalle were involved in the accident. The accident occurred as they were returning to Tangalle.
The bus reportedly fell about 500 meters down a cliff near the 24th kilometer post.
According to the Badulla Teaching Hospital, 15 Tangalle Municipal Council employees, including the council’s secretary T.W.K. Rupasena, were killed in the bus crash. The deceased also include two small children and the bus driver. Additionally, 18 people injured in the accident have been hospitalized.
