The Ministry of Agriculture has launched a new program called “Agri+” to increase the country’s rice harvest. The program, which will run from 2025–2028, aims to cultivate rice using new technological packages in 500 model fields across the country.
““Agri+” is active”
The widespread use of modern technology will completely improve production methods in the agricultural sector and provide farmers with a direct opportunity to achieve higher yields. The “Agri+” program aims to increase farmer efficiency by using new seeds, better fertilizers, advanced farming equipment, and modern water management methods. This progress is expected to have a direct impact on increasing their income, improving their living standards, and enhancing their economic stability. The program also aims to introduce new technical knowledge and methodologies to the field.
A planning session for the cultivation and production goals of the “Agri+” program was held today at 38 major irrigation schemes.
Deputy Minister of Lands and Irrigation, Dr. Susil Ranasinghe, the Additional Director General and Assistant Director of the Department of Agriculture, the Director of the Irrigation Management Division, the Resident Project Managers of the 38 major irrigation schemes, and all agricultural advisors attended the event.
