Five thousand kilos of Airmail stuck in Katunayake! – Postmaster General

Postmaster General Ruwan Sathkumara stated that more than five thousand kilograms of airmail, parcels, and documents sent from foreign countries are stuck at the Katunayake Airport due to the ongoing postal workers’ strike, which was in its third day yesterday (20).

The Postmaster General also mentioned that due to the strike, a large number of letters, parcels, and bags have also been stuck at railway stations and post offices, and the exact quantity has not yet been calculated.

It is reported that public services and all mail delivery activities at post offices have been paralyzed due to this strike.

It was also reported that people who came to use the postal services yesterday (20) had to leave without being able to fulfil their needs, expressing strong disapproval of the postal workers.

The Chairman of the Postal and Telecommunication Officers’ Union, G.G.P.C. Niroshan, stated that the ongoing strike by postal workers will continue.
