The price of a 400g packet of iodine-mixed salt powder has been reduced by Rs. 20, and the price of a 1kg packet of salt powder has been reduced by Rs. 30. Accordingly, a 400g salt powder packet will be sold for Rs. 100, a 1kg salt powder packet for Rs. 200, and a 1kg packet of crystal salt for Rs. 150, starting next week.
The chairman also stated that a 400g packet of corporation salt powder can be purchased for around Rs. 90 at Sathosa.
He added that the prices were reduced to provide relief to the public, as salt harvesting has now commenced at the Maha Lewaya in Hambantota, the Bundala Lewaya, and the Palatupana Lewaya.
