Yesterday (18), the area in Mutthu Nagar where an attempt was made to illegally excavate soil from land leased to solar companies was inspected by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment, Aruna Hemachandra.

According to the instructions of the Deputy Minister, the illegal excavation was stopped in its initial stages, preventing major damage. He also instructed the Sri Lanka Ports Authority’s security division to take necessary legal and standard action.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that legal action has already been taken against several individuals involved in the illegal mining, and further investigations are underway.

The successful inspection was a collaborative effort with the support of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB), the Police, the Department of Agrarian Services, and the Zonal Secretariat.
