The modernization program for the Nanu Oya railway station is being expedited, after being halted on several previous occasions. Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Minister Bimal Ratnayake stated that the lack of modernization at the station has created various issues for both local and foreign tourists, and the new development plan will help resolve these problems.

The Minister also noted that modernizing railway stations and providing a modern service are crucial for the development of the tourism industry. It is expected that the Railway Department and the government will jointly allocate the necessary funds for the project.

Furthermore, discussions were held regarding the impact of the Nanu Oya – Nuwara Eliya railway line on the local community. Accordingly, the basic needs identified in and around the Nanu Oya railway station will be fulfilled promptly under the “Dream Destination” program.
