Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra
With the security and political situation in the Middle East showing signs of calming, the Sri Lankan government is actively working to re-establish normal diplomatic relations with countries in the region.
As part of these efforts, preparations are underway to recommence employment opportunities for Sri Lankans in Israel, and necessary steps have been taken to re-establish the Sri Lankan Embassy in Tehran. This is being carried out in close coordination with our missions, institutions, and stakeholders in those respective countries.
“Sri Lanka’s General Stance on the Middle East”
Furthermore, considering the prevailing situation, we are committed to ensuring the safety and welfare of Sri Lankan citizens by maintaining strong relationships with regional countries, organizations, and relevant representatives. Ensuring their safety is our responsibility.
With the slight stabilization of the regional situation, we believe that tourists from Middle Eastern countries can be attracted to Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is considered a popular tourist destination, and the tourism industry can be further revitalized through new connections, diplomatic visits, and investments.
Moreover, we extend our gratitude to neighboring countries and international organizations for their support recently. The Sri Lankan government remains continuously committed to ensuring the safety of our citizens abroad, developing regional relations, and increasing foreign employment and tourism opportunities in the future.
