The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) has added a number of Sinhala words in its June 2025 update.

The Sinhala words now included in the OED are: Kiribath, Osariya, Avurudu, Mellum, Koththu Roti, Aswedduma, Papare, Walawwa, Baila, and Watalappan.

This inclusion signifies a significant global recognition for the Sinhala language and cultural identity.
