The historic Esala Perahera grand festival is scheduled to begin on July 25th with the auspicious planting of the Kap at the four main Devalayas (shrines).

Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela stated this during a discussion held at the golden weapons chamber of the Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic) last day (19).

The Diyawadana Nilame further added that after five days of internal Devala Peraheras, the first Kumbal Perahera will parade the streets on July 30th.

Following the Kumbal Perahera’s street procession from July 30th to August 3rd, the first Randoli Perahera will take to the streets on August 4th. The final grand Randoli Maha Perahera is planned to parade on the night of August 8th.
