If someone sincerely and dedicatedly serves their country and nation, they truly become a great pride and honour to that country. It is the responsibility of Serenbona News Service to introduce such honourable heroes to the world. For this purpose, the Serenbona media investigator stepped forward to pen a few words about this brave Police officer.

He is Police Inspector Y.M.P.B. Kularathna (Y.M. Prabath Bandula Kularathna) of the Ballaketuwa Police Station in the Badulla District, Uva Province. Police Inspector Kularathna, who fears no one before the law, possesses an innate ability to bring criminals to justice. His investigative intelligence is exceptional. Without becoming a slave to powerful individuals, he flawlessly carries out his duties for the citizens of the country.

The brave Police officer who pursues justice for the good of the people

In 2008, Kularathna joined the police service as a Sub-Inspector, receiving his first appointment to the Gampola Police Station. After serving courageously at the Gampola Police for a very short period of two years, he was transferred to the Mount Lavinia Police Station.

Sub-Inspector Kularathna, who diligently carried out his duties while strictly upholding the reputation and honour of the Sri Lanka Police, became an example to many officers. After completing five years of service at the Mount Lavinia Police, he then came to the Ella Police Station to take up the challenging position of Officer-in-Charge of the Criminal Division. He constantly had to contend with various criminals within the Ella area.

For the sake of justice and fairness, he fearlessly and steadfastly confronted them all. Police Inspector Kularathna did not succumb to the direct and indirect pressures exerted by some powerful individuals at the time and performed his duties honestly and bravely. Because of this, he became a hero among many in the area.

In the 150th anniversary year of the Sri Lanka Police, it was this brave police officer, Y.M.P.B. Kularathna, who won the award for the best Sub-Inspector in the Uva Province. He always worked to find justice for the innocent people of the area and to build a peaceful and free environment for them. Because of this, Kularathna became an enemy to criminals in the region, but a hero to the people who valued peace and justice.

In 2021, Police Inspector Kularathna, who was the Officer-in-Charge of the Criminal Division at Ella Police, received a transfer along with a promotion. This was to the newly established police station in Ballaketuwa, also within the Uva Province. A new OIC had arrived at the new police station.

The Ballaketuwa area is just as prone to crime as Ella. The newly appointed police station chief is currently carrying out his duties diligently, regardless of rank or status. His intention is to create an environment where the public can live without fear or suspicion.

Upon assuming his new appointment, Police Inspector Kularathna found numerous shortcomings at the Ballaketuwa Police Station. Located on a small plot of land within a cramped building, the Ballaketuwa Police lacks sufficient space to provide high-quality service to the public. There’s a clear need for a more spacious building.

Additionally, the current staff at the police station is limited to just nineteen personnel. Given that the Ballaketuwa area covers a very large region, at least thirty-eight police officers are needed. Most importantly, there’s a critical need for impartial and skilled intelligence officers within the intelligence unit to combat and investigate crimes in the area.

The Ballaketuwa police division is a region where various crimes occur, including drug offenses, land robberies, property thefts, and treasure looting, among many others. (Some crimes have gone unaddressed over time). Police Inspector Kularathna is fearlessly pursuing all these cases. We believe that the generous support of responsible government officials, including the Inspector General of Police and the Minister of Public Security, will be extended to this brave police officer to ensure the success of his future operations.

There is also a need to address old cases and complaints that have not been finalised for many years and the files are dormant. We hope that these files too will be taken up soon and the respective parties find justice in the system.
