During President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s visit to Germany, a meeting took place on June 12 between Minister Vijitha Herath and Dr. Thomas Steffen, State Secretary of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.

During the meeting, Minister Vijitha Herath highlighted to the German State Secretary that Sri Lanka’s recent economic and political stability, coupled with the establishment of a corruption-free government, has created a more investor-friendly business environment for German investors.

Attention on expanding direct flight services between Sri Lanka and Germany

Given that Germany is Sri Lanka’s fourth-largest tourism market, the discussion also focused on expanding direct flight services between Sri Lanka and Germany as a step towards enhancing tourist facilities.

Germany also affirmed its commitment to further increase vocational training support for Sri Lanka to produce skilled workers. Furthermore, the discussion covered Germany’s interest in supporting Sri Lanka’s economic development plan through technical cooperation and private sector participation.

A delegation of senior officials, including Sugishwara Gunaratne (Director General, Europe and North America) from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, also attended the meeting.
