Customs raid on abandoned shopping complex

At dawn yesterday Customs officers at Katunayake Airport discovered and seized 673 bottles of whiskey valued at 55.5 million rupees and 75 kg of Indian-produced cardamom. These items were found abandoned on the first floor of the duty-free shopping complex premises.

Customs officials have launched an investigation to determine on which flight and the passengers who brought this consignment of whiskey and cardamom to Katunayake Airport.

Customs officers are also questioning employees of the duty-free shops where the whiskey and cardamoms were left, and are reviewing the airport’s security camera system in an effort to identify the owners of these items.
