The Road Development Authority (RDA) announced that the road from Norton Bridge to Sri Pada(Adam’s Peak) via Ginigathhena, Diyagala will be closed for 10 days starting today (14) until June 24 due to urgent maintenance work.

The closure is to facilitate the construction of a new Bailey bridge on the road, as there’s a risk of an existing bridge collapsing. The bridge, located in the Lonac Estate area, which spans a canal feeding into the Kelani River, is severely dilapidated, with one section in the middle at risk of collapsing.

A road leading to Sripada is being closed

During this closure, vehicles traveling from Colombo on this route are advised by the Norwood Road Development Authority to use either the Kalugala-Polpitiya-Lakshapana-Norton Bridge road or the Hatton-Norton Bridge road.

Local residents state that this particular bridge has been severely dilapidated for four years and, with the current rainfall, there’s a risk of its complete collapse.
