K.D. Lalakantha, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land, and Irrigation, recently participated in an observation tour of the Department of Export Agriculture. During this visit, the Minister’s attention was drawn to the roles, progress, and future programs of the Department of Export Agriculture.
It was highlighted that the Department of Export Agriculture’s goals for the next five years include: increasing the export volume of agricultural crops by promoting sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing production and productivity; improving export quantity and quality; boosting export income by increasing value addition and market promotion programs; building the capacity of stakeholders in the export agricultural crop sector; and strengthening the legal framework for agricultural crop exports.

Following the observation tour, the Minister shared his thoughts. He stated that, as Minister, he would provide the necessary support to ensure the successful accomplishment of the Department of Export Agriculture’s relevant tasks. The Minister pointed out that effectively utilizing the funds allocated in the budget is a significant challenge this year. He further noted that since six months of the year have already passed, it would be possible to implement about three projects to cover all the functions of the Department of Export Agriculture.
The Minister emphasized that the funds allocated in the budget should be spent in a way that energizes the public, and that the economy will expand as these funds are disseminated into society. He underscored that this will lead to higher economic growth.
