This consignment is the first batch brought in under the program approved by the Cabinet in March 2025 to import coconut-related products (frozen coconut kernel, coconut milk or powder, coconut pieces with husk (non-copra)) equivalent to 200 million coconuts.
“First batch of coconut milk for clearance and laboratory testing”
This consignment is intended for use in the coconut milk powder industry, and the Ministry of Plantation and Community Infrastructure expects that this will provide the necessary raw materials for industries and lower coconut prices in the domestic market.
Furthermore, these imported materials will be released to factories from the Colombo Port only after obtaining approval from all necessary institutions, including the Plant Quarantine Station, the Standards Institution, the Coconut Research Institute, and the Department of Agriculture. The opening of this consignment took place today (31) at 9:00 am at the RCT Complex, Orugodawatta, Sri Lanka Customs premises.
