The Department of Meteorology has issued a red alert warning of strong winds and rough seas.

According to the announcement made by the Department of Meteorology, due to the influence of the southwest monsoon conditions, the wind speed in the sea areas off the coast from Chilaw through Puttalam and Mannar to Kankesanthurai, and from Galle through Hambantota to Pottuvil, may increase to about 60-70 kmph at times, and these sea areas will be very rough at times.

The Department of Meteorology has informed the naval and fishing communities not to venture into these sea areas until further notice.
