“Illicit transactions and corruption often occur with the circulation of cash. The less cash in circulation, the fewer illicit transactions and less corruption. Therefore, introducing a card system to the transport sector is essential.”
“We are implementing a new program to systematically organize transport services, including the three-wheeler service currently operating under several divisions and the school children transport service, through the National Transport Commission.”
Addressing the gathering, the new Chairman of the National Transport Commission, P. A. Chandrapala, said:
“The National Transport Commission is the primary institution that carries out the regulatory process in the transport sector on behalf of the government. This is an institution of the people. It is our responsibility to provide services for the people.”
“An individual cannot successfully complete a process alone, but they can provide leadership. It is only through a team effort that the aspirations of the people can be fulfilled. I believe that the necessary support will be received from the political mechanism. We will operate this institution in a manner that provides a quality service to the people while also strengthening the country’s economy.”
Several officials, including the Acting Director General of the National Transport Commission, Ms. Nayomi Jayawardena, and the Director (Finance), Kamal Dissanayake, also participated in this event.
