The project to provide LKR 1000 million, up to a maximum of one million rupees each for 1000 farmer organizations for 1000 projects related to irrigation systems and agricultural roads in farmlands, was officially launched yesterday (29) under the name ‘Govibimata Punarudaya’.
“‘Govibimata Punarudaya’program begins”
This project was initiated to carry out the rehabilitation work based on 1000 proposals submitted by 1000 farmer organizations under the Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority. This was announced at a press conference held at the main office of the Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority, under the patronage of the Deputy Minister of Land and Irrigation Susil Ranasinghe, Director General of the Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority Jayantha Herath, and Deputy Director General Vasanthi Seneviratne.
These proposals have been submitted by the farming community themselves, requesting the repair of various rehabilitation works that pose problems to them in farming. These repairs will be carried out with the intervention of the farmer organizations. Estimates for these proposals have been prepared, and arrangements have been made to award the contracts to the same farmer organizations. The awarding of these contracts is scheduled to commence from May 15th.
