“A special traffic plan for the “Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada) Veneration” has been implemented starting today , according to reports.
The police stated that with the arrival of vehicles carrying devotees to Kandy city, vehicle entry into the city will be restricted starting today to minimize potential traffic congestion within the city.
Special parking areas have been prepared for vehicles carrying devotees for the “Sacred Tooth Relic Veneration,” and bus services have been arranged from these locations to the Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth). Reports also indicate that a public transportation service is in operation for devotees to return to the parking areas after the veneration.

The “Sacred Tooth Relic Veneration” is scheduled to commence tomorrow (18) at 3:30 PM and will continue until 5:30 PM on the same day. From the 19th to the 27th of this month, the “Sacred Tooth Relic Veneration” will be held daily from 12:00 PM to 5:30 PM.
It is estimated that over 2 million local and foreign devotees will arrive for the Tooth Relic veneration, and all necessary arrangements have already been planned to provide them with facilities, according to reports. Due to this, a special security plan is also scheduled to be implemented in the Kandy city area.
It is mentioned that officers from the Police Special Task Force, the Police Canine Division, the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force have also been deployed to assist the police officers assigned for the safety of devotees and traffic control. Accordingly, the searching of people, traffic control, and the deployment of roadblocks will be carried out, and over 10,000 police officers, including 35 state-appointed officials, are scheduled to be deployed for this purpose.
The police request the public to dress in white when coming for the Tooth Relic veneration and to refrain from bringing large luggage, cameras, video equipment, and other electronic devices to the temple.”
