The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment has issued a statement clarifying that a YouTube channel operating from a foreign country is falsely claiming that the bureau is providing a sum of Rs. 10,000 to migrant workers for the Sinhala New Year.
The bureau states that the video instructs migrant workers to send a copy of their passport to any of the bureau’s offices located in the country. However, the bureau emphasizes that it has never issued such a notification.

It clarifies that the bureau has not implemented any such program as mentioned in the relevant YouTube channel and that this is merely a false propaganda intended to mislead the migrant community. The bureau implores the migrant community not to be deceived by such false.
Furthermore, the bureau states that it has not authorized such social media platforms to disseminate official government announcements. It also mentions that legal action will be taken against such fraudsters in the future.
