A small elephant calf is taken into the custody of wildlife authorities

It is reported that villagers captured a small elephant calf that had strayed into the Kottukachchiya paddy field and handed it over to wildlife officials’ yesterday(09) morning.

Wildlife officials have taken steps to hand over this approximately three-month-old calf to the Nikaweratiya Wildlife Veterinary Unit. Wildlife officials stated that an elephant calf from a herd of elephants that were being driven back into the forest in the Puttalam district these days (due to wild elephants entering villages) had become separated in this manner.
