A special discussion was held last day afternoon (07) at the Ministry premises between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, Wijitha Herath, and the Ambassador of the United States of America to Sri Lanka, Julie Chung. This was to discuss how the country will face the tariff policy imposed on Sri Lanka by the United States of America.
During this discussion, the trade relations between Sri Lanka and the United States of America and the potential impact of the new American tax policy on Sri Lanka’s export sector were given extensive attention. The need to reconsider the tariff policy imposed by the United States was emphasized in the context of Sri Lanka’s recovery process from the severe economic crisis faced in 2022, as well as to ensure the smooth implementation of the on-going International Monetary Fund program.
