It is reported that 10 Bangladeshi citizens who had arrived in Sri Lanka and were staying illegally, intending to flee to Europe, were arrested by officers of the Department of Immigration and Emigration in the Adiambalama area of Katunayake.

The individuals were arrested while staying at a holiday resort in the Adiambalama area of Katunayake. It is stated that they traveled from Bangladesh to India and then arrived in Sri Lanka on tourist visas in February.

All of them are males between the ages of 20 and 30, and preliminary investigations have revealed that they planned to travel from Sri Lanka to Dubai and then enter European countries.

The Department of Immigration and Emigration stated that the visas of these arrested Bangladeshi citizens had expired, and that steps were taken to detain them at the Welisara detention center.
